The first day of the grand traverse from Nirasaki city to the famous peaks of Okuchichibu is a dynamic day as you climb 2,247m in altitude from Nirasaki city, at an altitude of 354m, to Kitaokusenjodake, the highest peak in Okuchichibu, at an altitude of 2,601m.

Mt. Kayagatake, the final resting place of Kyuya Fukada, Mt. Kinpu, which can be climbed from the south entrance front approach following the religious path of the Old Ontake Trail, and the Shakunansha New Trail that runs from Mt. Kitaokusenjo to Mt. Kurogane are known as classic routes that were used as one of the main routes in Okuchichibu before the forest road to Oyadari Pass was developed, and there is plenty to see throughout the day.

  • The course includes unmaintained hiking trails and paths marked as difficult on hiking maps.
    Please follow the instructions of the support runners carefully as you pass through.

Walking area

  • The special protection zones and special areas of Chichibu Tama Kai National Park are walking areas.
    Please follow the instructions of your support runners and be careful not to deviate from the trail.
    1. After passing the afforestation monument and climbing up the bamboo grass field, the trail goes from the saddle just before Miko-no-sawa to an altitude of 2,370m after descending down Mt. Oku-Senjo-dake.
    2. From an altitude of 2,170m on the Mt. Oku-Senjo side of Mt. Gotomeki to an altitude of 2,220m on the Mt. Kurogane side.
    3. From near Odao around Mt. Kurogane to when you cross Mt. Kurogane and start descending.
